We are getting a new bunny barn! So of course we needed some nice, new cages. I have been working away building. I've learned a lot too, so each cage gets a little better. I love this blue color and decided to use it on all the cages. Each bunny will have plenty of space, each living space is 5x3x2.

![]() Sadie's babies are 2 weeks old today. They all have their eyes open and are on the move! It was very difficult to get a clear picture of them all together. They were all weighed today and are growing good. Hermione hasn't shown any signs of nest building so we may have to re-breed and try again with her. We will give her a few more days before we decide, just to be sure!
![]() This morning I woke up to 6 tiny babies. Sadie had her babies about 4am this morning! Sadie was bred with Loki (our new blue Holland) and this is his first litter. 2 of the babies are tiny, so I'm hoping that is all and they are not peanuts. 1 baby was a little wrinkly, but I'm sure that will fix itself once the babies are well fed. If you are wondering what "peanuts" are I'll explain. Holland lops are a dwarf breed. Most Hollands have one dwarf gene. When bred, their babies can have no dwarf gene, one dwarf gene, or two dwarf genes. The ones with two are considered peanuts. These babies cannot grow. They might grow fur, but will rarely survive to opening their eyes. There is nothing that can be done to save peanuts. It's a part of life when raising dwarf rabbits. Due to the extreme cold weather I did move Sadie into the garage a few days ago. She has a heat lamp that keeps everyone comfortable. Newborn kits are born without fur and cannot survive extreme temperatures hot or cold. |
