We will have more babies born late June and July!
![]() A peanut is a bunny that received a dwarf gene from both parents. Two dwarf genes results in a bunny that cannot survive. They usually only survive a couple of days. Peanuts are easily identified because they are much smaller than their siblings. Their siblings pass them up in size and weight quickly. It is very rare for one to live to open their eyes. A dwarf Holland Lop bunny usually ranges in size from 2 to 4 pounds. Dwarfs have tiny proportions. All dwarfs carry one copy of the dwarf gene. A false dwarf Holland Lop bunny could weight a little more, maybe 3 to 5 pounds. They usually have larger back feet and longer ears. If you are interested and would like to read more about the Dwarf gene, you can do so here. This article is great at explaining in more detail. Gamora is Hermione's daughter. She has just recently come back to live in our barn. She came to use very pregnant. She adjusted pretty good for the first few days, then got super grouchy. That's how we knew she really was pregnant.
I caught her today pulling hair and building her nest. Sure enough, she had her babies! I was out there, watching, but giving her space. She had 5 little babies. One might be a peanut, or a runt. I am not sure yet. I am hoping she is a great mom, so far so good! I know everyone will start messaging me about this litter, especially the brokens. For now, none are available. We have to see if she really is a good mom and takes care of them. I also have a wait list that I will start with first. This litter is not full pedigreed, just half on the mom's side. |
